This project was our first activity in math class. We created our own banners based on university banners. Each banner had to have an quote that was inspirational to you. Each banner also needed to include an answer about what you are most excited for during your senior year. Within the response to the question, you needed to include a mathematical expression that equals a number in your sentence.
My banner
I decided to create my banner digitally for a number of reasons. The biggest reason is that I am not the best artist. I thought that I could make a better quality piece on Photoshop using various resources. Even though I am not the best at Photoshop, I wanted to use this opportunity to become better and refine my skills.
My piece is somewhat simple, but it has a lot of meaning behind it. I chose to use a beach sunset background with small flowers growing out of the sand. This design is connected to my quote "Always try your best. What you plant today, you can harvest later." -Og Mandino There are four flowers growing out of the sand. One sapling, one small flower, one bigger flower, and a final larger flower ready for harvesting. I chose this design because it let me discover a deeper meaning to the quote. I know that if I try my best today, it may be a while before I can see results, like growing a flower, but at the end I will definitely be able to see the difference.
First draft
My first draft was fairly simple, because I was still getting used to photoshop and how to create different effects and designs.
This was very much a first draft because I wasn't entirely sure of the requirements. I originally created the banner sideways and with a very dark picture.
I created this draft of my problem much like the first draft of the art piece. I was not really sure what to do. The final draft of the problem piece turned out much differently than the final draft of the art piece.
Final draft
This final draft is much more refined, since I had a clearer idea of what was expected as well as what I wanted to do. I changed the orientation of the banner, which created more space for the quote, as well as changed the picture to better fit the idea of the growing flowers. I think this is a large improvement over the first draft, and really helped me to improve my photoshop skills as well as my artistic skills.
This final draft of my problem piece is much simpler and more straightforward than my first draft. In the first draft, I created an art piece to go along with the quote, but it turned out we didn't need to do this. My problem says "I am very excited to carve out the next path in my life. I can't want to see what the next log(10,000) or log (100,000) years of my life will hold.
It is fairly straightforward, but you will have to figure out the problems for yourself. :)
